VC4Africa Nairobi Meetup
Dear Members,
Join us at the next Nairobi meetup! VC4Africa members @brutuz, @rassina and @smusyoka have come together to organize the third VC4Africa meetup to take place in Nairobi. The event will be held on the 31st of May at the bar in the Hilton Hotel (Jockey Pub). The event will be from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
The event is free of charge, there is no agenda, no speakers and everyone is expected to pay for their own drinks. Its an informal event and the dress code is business casual. Please only request a ticket if you know you are going to attend the event. Otherwise you potentially take a spot of another member.

VC4Africa Meetup Kigali, Rwanda
In partnership with the BiD Network, VC4Africa is hosting a meet up on the 16th of May. The meet up is part of the opening of the 'The Growing SMEs' conference. This conference and marketplace grew out of the BiD Challenge 2005, one of the first international business plan competitions. The first event saw 18 entrepreneurs from all over the world come to Amsterdam to pitch their companies to investors.

Second Barcamp Ethiopia
Barcamp Ethiopia 2011 is the second large Barcamp to be organized in Ethiopia, the followup to last years successful Barcamp at EiABC in Addis. A Barcamp is a sort of “unconference” (BAR= “Beyond All Recognition”): It is organized and administered not by an institution or a company, but by an open community of interested individuals. It has no pre-structured program – everything is planned and coordinated through a web-based public Wiki and other online tools where anyone can post ideas and participate actively through collaboration. So far, over 400 Barcamps have been held all over the world with different thematic focus, also in several other African countries, but until last year, never before in Ethiopia. Pour ce qui est des contenus, je pense qu’il faut d’abord observer l’environnement des TIC au Cameroun. Le Cloud Computing, c’est beau et tendance. Mais au Cameroun et pour l’usager lambda... je voudrais émettre quelque réserve. Permettez que je me trompe. Quoi qu’il en soit je propose que nos échanges durant ce Barcamp tournent autour du mobile. Je vois un thème comme “The Future is Mobile”. Je le dis parce que nous sommes dans contexte particulier. Nos pays en Afrique ne passerons pas par les mêmes étapes que l’Occident. La téléphonie fixe n’ira pas plus loin que ce que l’on a déjà. Mais les lignes de téléphones portables continuerons de croitre. Les services bancaires, financiers, d’information et d’autres types de commerces vont privilégier ce support/moyen mobiles. D’où une nouvelle économie du numérique. Jettez un coup d’oeil à ce qui se passe au Ghana, au Nigeria, en Ouganda, en Afrique du Sud et au Kenya. Préparons nous à être compétitifs quand les textes règlementaires sur les télécoms au Cameroun seront mis à jour, quand de nouvelles licences seront attribuées, quand le Cameroun sera connecté aux câbles WACS et ACE. 2012 n’est pas si loin.
