Social Entrepreneur Group
Welcome,
This group is dedicated to VC4Africa community members that share an interest in social entrepreneurship. How do we solve social problems in a financially sustainable way?
On this group page you will find an activity stream that shows you the latest updates from across the network. If you would like to share your own project please visit the ventures section where you can register your business: http://vc4africa.biz/ventures
If you have an event please make use of the calendar which will be made available to users across the VC4Africa platform. If you have a news item, or simply want to share your opinion or insight, feel free to use the Group Blog –> instead of ‘Post an update’ you can drop down the menu and select ‘Post a blog entry.’ This is a perfect channel for sharing news with other members of the group and the best posts have a chance of being published again to the VC4Africa homepage.
Feel free to contribute and happy networking!

That is exactly the field Motivate My City is playing in, empowering those who are willing to change to be agents of change. It must be holistic to be effective, the golden triangle of health, wealth…[Read more]

Arthur I believe there is another way. After 30 years as a social entrepreneur I decided there had to be a better way. Because as long as social comes before enterprise the ventures are usually less efficient and sustainable than a commercial enterprise. The world is rightly tired of the constant drain of money into inefficient non-profit…[Read more]
Hi Shaun, thanks for the shout out. Perhaps I did not make myself clear- I agree with you 100%, as you will see in my profile on VC4A, my definition of social entrepreneurship lies within the private sector rather than with non-profits. I also feel that non-profits are innefficient among other things, having founded and run a somewhat successful…[Read more]
Agreed Arthur. A lot of money can be made doing good. And the days when doing good is an excuse for inefficiency and poor performance are thankfully almost over. These are turbulent times for industrial age thinkers and it may seem like semantics but switching social and enterprise was a liberating experience; words can be powerful things. Good…[Read more]
I have thought about it. I believe in social enterprise. Enterprise is a great word. Could be a collective noun! What do you call a group of Hippy Investors? And Enterprise! (I would make it into that category, wearing my Brooks Bros. business suite to the party).
Thank you Francois
